Reed diffusers: how to use them and enjoy the scent for longer

A reed diffuser with rattan reeds on a hallway shelf in soft morning light

A reed diffuser is one of the easiest ways to give a room a gentle, lasting scent – without a flame and without electricity. The rattan reeds slowly draw the fragrance oil up from the bottle and release it into the air.

Setting it up

  1. Place the bottle on a protected surface – a tray, a coaster or a small plate. The oil can damage furniture, varnish and plastic.
  2. Open the bottle and put the reeds in the neck.
  3. Give the reeds some time to soak up the oil. The scent then unfolds gradually.

Stronger or softer

  • Stronger: once the reeds have soaked up the oil, turn them over. The soaked ends are then in the air and release more scent. Turning them occasionally refreshes the scent.
  • Softer: use fewer reeds, or place the diffuser in a bigger room or a hallway.

Our 200 ml cinnamon and clove diffuser can scent a room for up to 12 weeks.

Where to place it

A hallway, a living room or an office desk all work well. Somewhere with a little air movement helps the scent spread. Avoid direct sun and heaters.

Safety

  • Keep the diffuser out of the reach of children and pets. Essential oils can be harmful to animals, especially cats.
  • Do not swallow the oil. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; if it happens, rinse with plenty of water.
  • Keep the diffuser away from open flames.
  • Avoid spilling the oil on furniture or fabrics.
